Barley Wine & Cheeseboard
Barley wines are the heavy hitters of beer. They are often slightly boozy and tend to be relatively sweet. Notes of figs and raisins dominate, and the caramel and toffee undertones combined with a light hoppiness make it a perfect dessert beer. The jam like undertones match up very will with all types of cheeses and chutneys. Serve your barley wine with a cheeseboard with dried fruits and all sorts of nuts and it will match phenomenally well.
Barley Wine
Barley wine is the not so distant cousin of the stout. A rich, complex, and full-bodied beer type, that relies less on hops for it’s central flavour component, and more on the use of malt. Unlike stouts, the malts are not roasted, leading to a slightly sweater and mellowed taste.
Even in a craft beer scene as concentrated as the one in San Diego, this place stands out and should be visited if you have the chance. Mikkeller SD has been a true game-changer, not only for us at Mikkeller but also for all of our locations who now suddenly have access to a plethora of amazing Mikkeller beers, brewed in the US and shipped around the world – making fresh American IPAs a common sight in Copenhagen for the first time.
